PROJECT ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
You will be a leader of our small, agile and maturing project management group, dedicated to delivering value for our clients and Geoware. We value agility and flexibility in utilizing both proven and innovative project management processes, tools and techniques to meet our project objectives. A typical project team is made up of 3 - 5 members, consisting of an engineer, system specialist, application specialist/trainer, and DBA. Your clients will typically be the waste management and IT organizations within municipal, county and regional governments. As a senior member of our project management group, you will provide mentoring, coaching, and support to Jr. PM and/or Project Coordinator where required.
POSITION SUMMARY
You are a self-motivated individual with at least 5 - 7 years of experience leading projects as a project manager. You will lead highly specialized project teams to implement and integrate software & hardware systems at client sites, often under strict deadlines. You will be on the front line interfacing with clients, successfully managing their expectations, even in challenging and demanding environments. You are open to continuous self improvement, learning and adapting proven and innovative best practices, tools and techniques for application within Geoware. In addition, you will play a leading role in the continual improvement of our internal project management best practices.
Your job responsibilities will include:

Provide leadership and management oversight for the project management Group.

Take ownership of the project management process and best practices; ensuring effective and efficient integration with other internal organizational processes.

Lead, mentor, coach and develop a team of project managers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and on budget.

Identify and lead continuous improvement efforts associated with project deliveries in order to achieve higher level of effectiveness and efficiency.

Ensure effective cross-functional transfer of learned knowledge (i.e. both technical and process related) from project implementations, including lessons learned.

Work closely with clients (internal and external) to develop project charters, understand goals and objectives, manage communications and expectations, report status and escalate issues.

Develop project strategies and produce project management plans (scope, risk, quality, cost, change management, communications, procurement, work breakdown structure, and schedule) to deliver against it.

Pro-actively manage changes in project scope, identify project risks and determine appropriate mitigation steps and contingency plans.

Provide leadership to motivate, coach, mentor and supervise project team members, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

Provide timely status reports and communications to clients, project team members and other relevant stakeholders.
You have the following qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or other electronics/computer related fields.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
-
Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive Project Management experience, including experience in application development, system/application implementation projects

Previous experience leading and managing a functional group.

Proficiency in defining project scope, objectives and deliverables.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including project charters, concise meeting minutes, strong meeting management skills, professional reports, analytical documents and business cases.

Well developed negotiation, and mediation skills pertaining to planning, budgeting, issue resolution, resource acquisition and management.

Proven effective leadership skills to manage, motivate, coach, and develop teams.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with all levels of management and staff.

Experience with software development methodologies.
The following additional assets will give you an edge:

Experience in leading and managing a group of project managers in a Project Management Office (PMO) environment, with diverse specializations in software/product development projects and system implementation/deployment projects.

Experience with developing and managing processes.

Experience with continuous process improvement.

Formal training in PMI or other project management methodologies.

Previous experience working with, or have worked in municipal, county and regional governments.

Extensive experience working in highly results-driven and highly dynamic project environments.

Previous experience leading software and hardware deployment projects.

Experience working on projects involving IT departments.
